At Kindly RSVP Designs in Towson, MD, owner and graphic designer Rachel Zemel has built a reputation for crafting custom invitations that perfectly reflect each couple’s unique wedding style. With a background in graphic design and years of experience helping couples bring their vision to life, Rachel takes a personal approach to every project. We met Rachel at the MD Wedding Expo a few years ago at the Timonium Fairgrounds and have loved following her journey. We asked her to tell us how couples can start planning what invitations they want to design for their wedding.
Your wedding invitation is the first glimpse your guests will have of your big day, so it should reflect your overall style and vibe. Before choosing paper or fonts, think about the feeling you want to create. Are you planning something traditional and timeless, modern and minimal, or fun and playful? A formal ballroom celebration might call for a classic, elegant design, while a beachside or rustic wedding could lean lighter and more creative. Your invitation sets the tone long before guests arrive.

Once your style is defined, we select the structure of the invitation. This could be a layered card for added dimension and elegance, a pocket-style suite to neatly hold multiple inserts, or a flat minimalist design for a clean, modern look. The format becomes the foundation of the suite and helps reinforce whether your wedding feels formal, contemporary, or relaxed.
Next, we choose colors and paper stock that complement your wedding palette. Soft neutrals, jewel tones, earthy greens, or bold celebratory hues can all be incorporated into your design. Paper texture and weight matter just as much — smooth matte stock feels modern, cotton or textured papers feel romantic, and heavier cardstock adds a sense of luxury. The paper is often the first physical impression guests experience.

Finally, we select fonts that bring personality to the design. A thoughtful combination of block and script styles creates balance. Block fonts provide structure and readability, while script fonts add elegance and flow. Traditional weddings may favor classic serif and refined script pairings, while modern or fun celebrations may lean toward clean sans-serif or playful typography. When style, structure, color, paper, and fonts come together intentionally, your invitation becomes a beautiful reflection of your day.
We asked Rachel what she loves most about her business and she said, “I love helping clients’ visions come alive for their special day. I love meeting new people who are excited about their special event.” If you’re interested in working with Kindly RSVP Designs, the best way to contact her is by email or phone: kindlyrsvpdesigns@gmail.com / 410-935-1413.
